The new branch of the Puerto César Educational Institution in Puerto Bello was established to address the needs of a vulnerable rural community. Previously, 28 children from preschool to fifth grade were taught by a single teacher in a makeshift wooden structure lent by a neighbour, after the original building was destroyed by a storm. This temporary facility lacked toilets, recreational areas, and basic utilities, leaving children to study in near-open-air conditions.
Located in the Urabá region of Antioquia, in the hamlet of Puerto César, La Playita sector, approximately 40 minutes from Turbo, the community primarily consists of fishermen, many of whom are internally displaced due to violence and face significant challenges owing to limited employment opportunities.

Cuentan con una capacidad para 90 niños, con 3 aulas de clases, cocina, comedor, habitación para docente con baño, unidades sanitarias, zona de parque infantil. Adicionalmente, se construyó una rampa para personas con movilidad reducida y escalera de acceso a la institución educativa, así como una estructura elevada a 1,10 mt. del nivel del terreno, tomando como referencia 1 mt. como el nivel máximo histórico de inundación registrado.

Handover Delivery to the Community • 2016
The school was officially handed over to the community in 2016. This educational project was realised through collaboration between the Foundation, the Mayor’s Office of Turbo, various regional entities, the local community, and a dedicated team of volunteers, fulfilling the long-held aspiration of providing a fully equipped educational facility for the children.

Social Impact
